Raymond L. Murray, Jr., 89, of East Providence died at the R.I. Veterans Home on November 27, 2013. He was the husband of the late Nancy H. Murray. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raymond L. Murray, Sr. and Mary (McNulty) Murray and brother of the late Patricia Murray, Ph.D of Newport. A resident of East Providence since 1928, Mr. Murray served on the town and city council for ten years and served as Mayor for two years. He was retired from New England Telephone Company.

Mr. Murray was a member of the Army Air Corps during WW II, serving as a pilot of heavy bombardment aircraft with the 95th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. He flew with the Military Air Transport Service during the Korean War and later flew with the R.I. Army National Guard. While serving in Europe, he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and with ve Air Medals for 'Meritorious achievement while participating in thirty heavy bombardment missions in the air offensive against the enemy over Continental Europe.’

He is survived by his four children: Patricia Murray of Cranston, R.L. 'Mike' Murray III of Seekonk, William J. Murray of Warwick and Joan Santos of East Providence. He has eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jean M. DeAngelis of Narragansett.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5-8 in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be private.
