Patrick W. Murphy

August 23, 1921 – January 13, 1998

Patrick W. Murphy, 76, of Holmes, Ridley Township, recipient of the Coeur deGuerre Medal and other highest honors of World War II, died Jan. 13 at home.

Born in Lost Creek, Pa., Mr. Murphy lived in Holmes for the last 44 years and previously made his home in Philadelphia.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was the recipient of the Coeur deGuerre Medal presented by French General Charles deGaulle, the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters, the Distinguished Unit Badge with two Oak Leaf clusters, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six bronze stars.

Mr. Murphy was a member of the 95th Bomb Group (H) Association, the Eighth Air Force Historical Society, Post 0507, American Legion and the Men of Malvern.

Mr. Murphy was employed as a breadman by the Schmidt Baking Co. from which he retired in 1983 and previously worked for the Bond Baking Co.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Marie E. Pardini Murphy; two sons, Michael P. Murphy of Sewell, N.J., and John J. Murphy of West Chester; three daughters, Regina Moughan of Havertown, Pattie M. Thompson of Aston and Maryellen Bukowski of Middletown, Del.; two sisters, Julia Hull of Massachusetts and Theresa McCann of California; and 10 grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Amosland Road, Morton. Burial follows in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood.
