Lyle W. Scott

February 19, 1922 – February 3, 2007

Lyle W. Scott, born February 19, 1921, celebrated his heavenly birth on February 3, 2007. Lyle was born in Blackfoot, Idaho to Clyde and Eva Scott; married Harriet Wolff of Idaho Falls, April 7, 1947. He was a college athlete at Idaho State for basketball, football and track. He was with the civil air patrol, receiving his pilot license. Lyle then went into the Army Air Corp for pilot training on B17's. He was sent to England with the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group completing 35 missions with his original crew. Lyle received the Distinguished Fly Cross, ve Oak Leaf medals, WWII Victory Medal and four Bronze Stars.

He attended Gonzaga University and joined the Washington Air National Guard, flying as a fighter pilot and later becoming the Wing Commander. Lyle was a member of Daedalians, Quiet Birdmen and the Elks.

After retirement he and Harriet attended many 95th Bomb Group reunions and traveled many times to Europe to visit family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his children, often being "camp cook." Many weekends were spent at the summer home on Pend Orielle River, which later became their permanent home.

He is survived by his one true love and wife of almost 60 years, Harriet, sons Randy (Claudia), Brian (Joan), John (Karen), daughters Lucy (Rich) Weidert, Helen (Bruce) Hughes, Theresa (Gaylin) Stiner, and Mary Thomas, 23 grandchildren, and 17 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons Craig and Karl Scott, grandchildren Nichole Stiner, Jimmy Hughes and Jared Scott, and son-in-law TSgt Tim Thomas.

Lyle was an extraordinary man, loved by family and friends. His larger than life presence will be missed by all who knew him. Yes Dad, we will "be of good cheer."

Rosary Vigil will be Thursday, February 8, 7pm at St Joseph Catholic Church, 1503 W. Dean. Mass of Christian Burial will be cele-brated Friday, February 9th, 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a Military Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
