Harrell Woodrow Baker

Harrell Woodrow Baker, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Hospice home. He was a native of Durham, NC and the husband of 65 years to Betty Gooch Baker who survives.
Harrell retired from AT & T formerly Western Electric and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He served with the 8th Air Force during WW II in the European Theater participating in 25 missions and he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Harrell attended Duke University after returning from service and graduated from Elon University with a BS in Business Administration. Hel was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church and a former Deacon at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Gooch Baker of the home; son, Timothy Baker of Charlotte and grandchildren, Graham Baker and Grace Baker both of Charlotte; brothers, Sidney Wayne Baker and wife, Alice of Durham; sisters, Joanne Sgrosso and husband, Vincent of Atlanta, Georgia and Hilda B. Tillman of Toccoa, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents. Henry Wise Baker and Rachel Stanford Baker; sister, Dorothy B. Tilley and his brothers, Melvin, Benjamin, Newton and William S. Baker.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Noon at Holly Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Kenny Black and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors provided by the US Airforce honor guard. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
