He was serving as the engineer on a B-17G which took off from Horham with an assigned target of St Andre and Evreux airfields, France. Fighter attacks near Villacoublay set the No's 3 and 4 engines on fire and the aircraft left formation. It exploded severing the right wing and tail section, sending the rest of the fuselage into a spin. Crashed on a Army training field or a field for bombing training, SE of Arbonne, near Foutainebleau, France. 8 KIA 2 POW
