Robert Austin Titus, 85, finished his journey on this earth on April 13, 2000. He was predeceased by his parents Howard M. and Myrtle Strane Titus, his sister Laverna M. Titus and brother John E. Titus and his son Robert Christopher Titus. He is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Titus and son-in-law, Manuel Penaloza of Sacramento, Calif.; his son, John E. Titus and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Krendl of Binghamton, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Elizabeth K. and Jordan K. Titus of Binghamton and Jonathan L. Penaloza of Sacramento; his sister, Jeannette Miller and brother-in-law, Aaron Miller of La Jolla, Calif.; and his nephew, John Miller; his niece, Nancy Miller; and his grand-nephew, Roger Miller. His many friends from the Columbus area included special friends, Richard Yoakam and Jody Prater.
Bob, a native of Marion, Iowa, served as a B-17 navigator in the Army Air Force during WW II. In this capacity he cultivated friends whom he enjoyed the remainder of his life, especially those whom he saw at yearly reunions of his 95th Bomb Group and of the Air Force Escape and Evasion Society.
He was a clarinetist and music teacher at The Ohio State University from 1947 until his retirement in 1981. He was a long-time member of the Unitarian Church and the Sierra Club. Bob loved classical music, swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Georgian Bay, bicycle riding, exploring in the woods, and preparing sausage and waffle breakfasts for friends and family. A conservationist and scholar, he tended local nature paths, composted in his back yard, studied archeology and the lives of composers.
A memorial service will be held in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer at 2 p.m. on Sunday May 21. Arrangements by COOK & SON-PALLAY FUNERAL HOME.
