Eugene A. Payne, 83, of Largo, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at Sun Coast Hospital, Largo. He was born in Cleveland and came here in 1983 from Parma, Ohio. He was a retired retail salesman. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II with the rank of captain and pilot of a B-17. He was a prisoner of war. He was a member of VFW, the American Legion, Elks, American Ex- Prisoners of War, The Retired Ofcers Association (TROA), the 95th Bomb Group Association, the Masonic Lodge,Scottish Rite and Al Sirat Grotto.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeanne; a son, William E., Duluth, Minn.; five daughters, Patricia Payne and Barbara Dietz, both of Parma, Ruth Granito, Euclid, Ohio, Judith Kall, Independence, Ohio, and Margaret Mitchner, Grafton, Ohio; three brothers, Richard and John, both of Dunedin, and Robert, Ashland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
