Paul J. Reynolds
August 21, 1921 – November 13, 2009
Paul J. Reynolds, age 88, of Hunter Lane, Morehead, passed away Friday, November 13, at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born August 21, 1921, in Wrigley, Morgan County, and was the son of the late Anna Caudill Reynolds Clay and James S. Reynolds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Mabel Carr Reynolds, who died on February 24, 2004, and a daughter, Sara Josephine Reynolds on Sept. 13, 1958. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Edward Reynolds.
Survivors include two sons, Roy W. Reynolds and his wife Jean Lamer of Atlanta, Georgia, and Joseph Otto Reynolds of Corvallis, Oregon; one daughter Anne R. Buckner and her husband Glen Buckner of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law Dianna Pettit Reynolds of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Tonya Ricks (David), Tiffany Sholar (Alan), Kaitlyn Reynolds, and Makayla Reynolds; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Ricks, Braden Ricks, Logan Clark, and Alana Sholar; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Bethany Sholar, Trent Sholar, Eli Sholar, and Caitlin Sholar.
Also surviving are two brothers, James Richard Reynolds and William Earl Clay, and one sister Mary Margaret (Peggie) Reynolds, all of Morehead, Kentucky, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul J. was a lifelong member and honorary elder of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he and Mabel were baptized together in 1937. He was a graduate of Morehead High School and Morehead State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. During World War II Paul served as 1st Lt., 95th Bomb Group, 412th Squadron, 8thAir Force. Paul completed 35 missions over Germany as Bombardier/Navigator, and was honored for excellence in service with Air Medals, ve Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Paul's professional life was centered on the lumber business, after working on the KY State Highway Patrol and with Carr-Lancaster Block Company. For his father-in-law, Otto Carr, Paul J. managed Carr Lumber Company from 1950 to 1975. Prior to an early retirement, he also became a co- manager of Homer Gregory and Company, a logging and saw mill business. Paul's community service involvements included the Morehead City Council, Lions Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
During his retirement years he enjoyed gardening, pocket billards with all his friends, and finding collectibles (sadirons, trivets and coins).
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 16, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Morehead with the Reverend Molly Smothers ofciating.
Pallbearers will be Walter Dennis Carr, Terry Reynolds, Lewis Croom, Jim Tom Caudill, Joe Macke, Larry Fannin, David Perkins, and Ronnie Caudill.
Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and friends.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Living Memorial Fund or Fellowship Hall Renovation Fund, 227 East Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351.
