Jack R. Plasket
January 24, 1925 – November 9, 2011
Jack R. Plasket, 86, of Elsinboro, NJ, formerly of Glassboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at home with his family by his side. Born in Quinton, NJ, he was the son of Helen and Carlton Plasket. He attended Quinton and Salem Public Schools and graduated from Salem High School in 1942.
Jack was drafted as an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air Force. He was a navigator on a B-17 bomber stationed in East Anglia, England with the 8th Air Force 95th Bomb Group. He retired from active duty as a 1st Lieutenant in May, 1946.
When Jack came home, he entered Glassboro Junior College and then transferred to the College of Electrical Engineering in Newark, NJ in 1948. From there he went to the University of Delaware to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering, graduating in 1951. From 1951 until 2005, he was part owner of Engineering Surveys in Mantua; and, after his retirement, he became a consulting engineer for the rm.
Jack was a member and former chairman of Gloucester County Soil Conservation District. After moving to Elsinboro in 1988, he served on the Elsinboro Zoning Board and Planning Board. His other memberships include: First United Methodist Church of Glassboro and Broadway United Methodist Church, Salem; West Jersey Survey Association; Society of Civil Engineers; Heritage Glass Museum of Glassboro; and the NRA. Jack was voted Elsinboro's Veteran of ther Year in 2006. He enjoyed playing Bridge, painting with watercolors and oils, carving decoys, shing and cooking.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Campbell Plasket; his 3 daughters, JacquelineTartaglione (Fred) of Glassboro, Diane Leigh Plasket of Neweld, and Suzanne Bauer (Anthony) of Elmer; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons; and his brother, Wayne, of Salem.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 11:00 AM in the MATHIS FUNERAL HOME, 43 N. Delsea Drive, Glassboro, NJ, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. A memorial service in Salem will be announced at a later date. Contributions in Jack's memory may be made to Heritage Glass Museum, 25 E. High St., Glassboro, NJ 08028.
