Services for Oscar "Ace" Shelton, 80, of Tyler are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler.

The Revs. Gary Brandenburg and John Morris will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bryan City Cemetery.

Mr. Shelton died Thursday in a Tyler hospital.

He served as a tailgunner in Europe during World War II with the 95th Bomb Group stationed in Horham, Suffolk, England, and completed 36 missions. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was a charter member of Tyler Metro Church and attended Grace Community Church. After his retirement, he received a degree from Tyler Junior College and attended the University of Texas at Tyler. He was a member of the Founders Club in Virginia Beach, Willowbrook Country Club, the Smith County Republican Club and the 95th Bomb Group Association.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Shelton of Tyler; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Melinda Shelton of Tyler; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rhonda Burk of Conroe; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandee and Dale Carmen of Rockport; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Charles Dewees of Austin; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Opal and Milton Campbell of Corsicana and Ruby Thomas of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
