Salvatore A. Spingola
September 26, 1923 –January 27, 2014
Long-Time Resident of Alameda Sal Spingola passed away on January 27, 2014 in Alameda at the age of 90. He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed by Betty, his devoted wife of 65 years.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Alameda, Sal was well known and liked in the community. Son of the late Angelo and Elizabeth Spingola. Brother of Elizabeth and the late Henry Vallerga, the late Angela and John Campbell, the late Marie and Fred Liserra, and the late Frank and Eleanor Spingola. Brother in- law of Emma and the late Robert Beland , Beverly Splan, the late Helen and Tony Marich, and the late Walter Lucas. He loved his nieces and nephews as his own: Donna Campbell, John and Judy Campbell, Michael and Merryanne Liserra, Stephen and Roberta Liserra, Cathy (Spingola) and Sean Talai, David and Valarie Vallerga, Karen and Douglas Sowell, Diane and Ronald Fair, Laura and Evert Palmer, Marie Tapia, Tanjore Splan, Laurette and James Mari, Claire Splan, Jeanette Beland, Andrea and Dan Marshall, and the late Donald and James Spingola, the late Dorothy Marich. Also, survived by many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews that he enjoyed and loved so much. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Sal proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War ll as a tail gunner, he flew 31 bombing missions over France and Germany.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lymphoma Society, Veterans Organizations or your favorite charity. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing Monday, February 3, 2014 at 9:30 AM to be followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at Van Buren and High Street, Alameda.
