Mr. Frank Arthur Martin, 91, of Fort Payne, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville.

Mr. Martin was born in Tallassee, Alabama, on Nov. 20, 1923, to J.D. and Evie Jones Martin. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Payne and the Lions Club. A pilot, he enjoyed flying as well as playing golf, and fishing.

Mr. Martin served his country during World War II as a member of the 8th Army Air Corp where he flew 35 missions as a tail gunner. In the 1950s, he moved to Fort Payne and started M&S Steel, Valley Steel, and Metal Deck Inc. He owned Martin Builder’s Supply in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He retired in 1985 but continued to run Martin Properties, maintaining the office until just a few weeks ago.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Payne with the Rev. Ricky Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 8, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to the 95th Bomb Group Memorial Fund or the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter, Kathy Martin; cousins, Betty Ann Kendrick and Liz Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and chosen family Alan and Marsha Miller, Teresa, Wayne and Jacob H ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine R. Martin; and brothers, Otis Martin, Paul Martin, Curtis Martin, T om Martin and Joe Martin.
