HEMINGWAY, Emery C. - Of Flint, age 79, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, November 18, 2002 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Road in Swartz Creek, Dr. Roy L. McLaughlin officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery, with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822. Those desiring may make contributions to the Cornerstone Baptist Church. Visitation 4-8PM Saturday and 2-8PM Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Emery will be at the church from 10:30AM until the time of the service on Monday.

He was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 14, 1923. He married Verna Smith on April 15, 1949 in Flint. He graduated with the class of 1943 from Flint Central High School. He enjoyed the sports of bowling and pitching horseshoes. He particularly enjoyed watching baseball. Emery served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II, where he was shot down twice and was captured the second time becoming a POW.

He retired in 1976, with 30 years of service, from General Motors Fisher Body I.

Surviving are wife, Verna; special niece, Vickie and husband Carl Benko of Flushing and their children, Damon and Kendra Riley, Amanda and Karl Benko; many other special nieces, nephews and church "kids"; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Inez Smith of Flint; brothers-in-law, Jack and wife Dee Davis of Lawndale, California, Bob and wife Kay Davis of Kalamazoo, Curt and wife Terry Smith of Alpena; many aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise; and brother, Harold.
