Edward M. Sharp, 80, of Springfield, formerly of Naples, Fla., and Hot Springs, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at St. John's Hospice.

He was born June 2, 1918, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of John M. and Wave I. Baker Sharp. He married Clydean Smith in 1948 in Springfield; she died in 1997.

Mr. Sharp was owner and operator of the Hickox Apartment Complex from 1962 until retiring in 1978. He then moved to Naples, Fla., where he was the president of the Homeowners Association of Quail Creek Country Club from 1980-84, when he moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where he lived from 1984 until moving to Springfield in 1998.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving in World War II and receiving the distinguished flying cross, the air medal with three bronze oak leaves. presidential unit citation, American defense service medal, lapel button, American campaign medal, European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with two bronze service stars and the World War II victory medal. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1941-45.

He also worked with his father at Sharp Heating and Air Conditioning. He attended Western Military Academy, and graduated from Springfield High School and the University of Nebraska.


Survivors: a son, John Edward M. Sharp of Springfield; a daughter, Deborah Sharp Peper of Springfield; a grandson; a sister, Lucille Christine of Springfield/ and several nieces and nephews.
