Carl Strauch, Sr.

Carl Strauch Sr., 85, of Newport, Wash., died Sept. 12, 2008 in Newport. Carl was born June 6, 1923 in Alpine, Calif.,the son of Carl Henry and Josephine (McNett) Strauch. Carl spent most of his youth in Alpine. On March 29, 1942 he married Shirley LeGacy in Gary, Ind. During WWII Carl served in the Army Air Corps on a B17 Bomber in the 335th Bombardment squadron, 8th Air Force. After WWII the couple made their home in Alpine where he worked in the construction industry.
Carl enjoyed his work and an occasional camping trip to the desert. After retiring in 1993 the couple moved to Boise, later moving to Newport in 2005 to be closer to family.
Survivors include one son, Carl (and Melva) Strauch Jr. of Newport, one daughter, Linda Oslie of Lakeside, Calif., daughter in law Alana Strauch of Republic, Wash.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son Ray and grandson Christopher Strauch.
A graveside service will be held on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at sherman-knapp.com
