William Steele

Lt Col William (Bill) Steele passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 peacefully at the age of 94 in New Orleans. Bill resided in New Orleans for the past six years in order to be close to his eldest daughter, Nora Steele Porter.

Stationed in England during WWII, he was a POW in the European theatre and the recipient of numerous awards including a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Bronze Stars.

After a retirement from the Air Force, Bill and his wife Fran lived in Rochester, New York, and Clearwater Beach, Florida. Fran was the love of Bill's life and predeceased him in 1997.

He is survived by three children, Nora Steele Porter, William T Steele, and Meganne Steele; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his older brother Andrew Steele of Martha's Vineyard and many nieces and nephews.
