“Proud B-17 Pilot and Veteran of WWII, beloved family man, 100.

“John Michael Lunney was born on August 5, 1922 in Bayonne, NJ. He passed away at his home on July 18, 2023, surrounded by his family.

“He was proud of the 35 missions he completed as a B-17 pilot in the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group, 336 Bomb SQD, during WW II. He went on to graduate from the University of Chicago with an Aeronautical Engineering degree. He worked and traveled the world with RCA for 35 years. He was married to the love of his life, Mary McGee, for 55 years.

“For John his faith, friends, and especially his family were his everything. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, daughter Shelia, parents Sara and Francis, his brothers Fran, Joe, Gene, George, Hilary, Leo, James and his sister, Sister Francis Annice. He is survived by his daughters Susanne Davis and Maureen Mesce and grandchildren Rad, Jonathan, Ryan, Gregory, Amy and Kyle and many great-grandchildren. John not only loved, but was loved by, many nieces, nephews and friends.

“There will be a mass to celebrate John's life on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, to at The Church of Saint Ann in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to the Salvation Army.

“Funeral arrangements have been under the care of the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ.
