Russell P. Allman

February 16, 1919 – October 27, 2006

A funeral service for Russell P. Allman, age 87, of Heath, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27, at the First United Methodist Church, 88 North Fifth Street, Newark, with Rev. Carl Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Allman died October 22, 2006 at Licking Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born February 16, 1919 in Highland County, Ohio to the late Orpha P. and Lucy (Druhot) Allman.

Mr. Allman was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having held the rank of First Lieutenant. He honorably served his country during World War II from March 24, 1941 to January 12, 1945. Mr. Allman flew twenty-three missions over Germany as Bombardier on B-17. He was a Prisoner of War and was interned in a prison camp at Sagan, Germany for six months. Mr. Allman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and was authorized to wear the European Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star. Mr. Allman was employed by the William S. Moore Store and Airsman Ignition.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Knights Templar of Chillicothe, the Grand Lodge of Masons of Ohio, Senior Shriners Group, Newark Maennerchor, American Legion, Motts Military Museum, a charter member of The Air Force Association, life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW, Mighty Eight Air Force Museum of Savannah, Georgia, Lions Club of Newark, the 95th Bomb Groups Association, and the Mound Builders Chapter 13 and Columbus Chapter 1 of the American Ex-prisoners of War.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie M. (McCune) Kovaleski Allman; brother, Ralph (Gail) Allman of Davenport, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Joyce McCune-McMillen of Cambridge, Marla (Don) Davis of Lakeway, Tex. and Virginia (Fred) Wendell of Columbus; brother-in-law, Aubrey McCune of Belle Valley; niece, Barbara (Ken) Lewis of Orlando, Fla; nephews, Kirk (Trish) Knorr of Houston, Tex., Allen (Marcia) McCune of Delaware; great-niece, Toni McCune; and great-nephews, Austin and Hunter McCune. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred (Ehler) Allman and by a brother Gerald.
