Manuel Rey
February 7, 1918 – August 2, 2012
Born in Jerome (Arizona) on February 7, 1918, died August 2, 2012. He is the beloved husband of the late Mary Rey; beloved father of Mary Lou McIntire (Bob), Christina Haman (Glenn), Angie Christianson (Roger), Mike Rey, Paula Miller (Mark). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a WW II B-17 bomber pilot and flew rescue missions after the war, retrieving American POWs in Europe and bringing them back to the U.S. He later retired from Santa Barbara Research Center (Raytheon). Manuel was an active member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and also on the Parish Council. His presence and his poetry were a true reflection of the love of God as he touched the lives of so many people.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2012, 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s Church, 5444 Hollister Ave., Santa Barbara.
