Paul Foley

April 1, 1917 – January 28, 1999

Paul A. Foley, 81, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, January 28, 1999 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. Mr. Foley was born April 1, 1917 to Anna (Kobor) and Steven Foley in Aurora. 

He married Ruth Retterer on June 14, 1941. During World War II, he was a B-17 mechanic with the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group. During his working lifetime, he was a route man for several area dairies. He retired from the Teamsters, and then worked as a maintenance man at the Aurora Police Department building, retiring from there in 1982. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church as well as the Montgomery Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7452.

Mr. Foley was the loving father of four daughters, Diana (Ray) Vickery of Gurnee, Sharon Foley of Aurora, Carol Garlick of Batavia, and Janet (Mark) Corah of Montgomery. He is also survived by grandsons, Rick Garlick of Batavia, and John (Diane) Konen of Geneva; and great-granddaughter Ashley Konen. Mr. Foley also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, and special young friend, LeeAnn Saucedo. He also leaves an abundance of good friends at Plum Landing, where he had lived the last six years. Mr. Foley was a friend to all and the resident greeter from his chair in the Plum Landing building lobby. He was known there for providing light hearted messages on the elevator signs and – true to his April Fools' birthday – always had a joke or one-liner to bring a smile to the faces of those around him.

Mr. Foley was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, sisters Mary (Baumgartner) and Rose, brothers Joseph and Steve, and son-in-law Fred Garlick.

He will lie in state from 9 a.m. until of funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 1999 at St. Nicholas Church. Father David R. Engbarth will officiate with interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
