With heavy hearts, the Memorials Foundation and the Heritage Association report that Joseph “Joe” W. Goldsbury of Dublin, OH, left formation on 19 November 2015 at age 90. Joe was a 335th radio operator. He passed away peacefully in Sandusky, OH. Folded wings.

Dr. Goldsbury’s obituary from the Columbus Dispatch (22 November 2015) relates that Joe was “preceded in death by Mary Lou Goldsbury, his cherished wife of 64 years, and his son-in-law Greg Buckley. He is survived by their daughters, Pamela (Larry) Johnson, Rebecca (Bill) Nisbet, and Barbara Buckley; as well as his brother-in-law, Ronnie (Sherry) Wells, their children and Mike Van Culin. He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Johnson, Dennis (Liz) Nisbet, Mary Lynn (Bobby) Williams, Joe (Brittany) Van Culin, Jason (Jenny Chaffin) Van Culin, and Jonathan Van Culin and their children, Case, Drew, Kylie, William, Teddy, and Jackson.

“Dr. Goldsbury grew up in Sciotoville, Ohio, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from The Ohio State University where he earned his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in elementary education. During his undergraduate years he was a proud member of The Ohio State University Marching Band. He taught and was an elementary principal in several Columbus Public Schools and retired as principal of Barrington Elementary School in Upper Arlington. He also served as an assistant professor in the School of Education at Kent State University.”

Joe left a strong impression on his former students. “He was dignified and served well as principal,” remembered Sylvia Miller of Dublin. “He always knew the right words to say to make the day seem bright.” Steve and Heidi Scarpitti of Hilliard, OH, felt similarly: “Joe set the standard for all educators in every possible way. His wit, kindness, compassion and gentle ways will forever be in my heart and mind.”
