From the 95th BG Memorials Foundation Facebook page:

In deep sadness, the Memorials Foundation and the Heritage Association announce that Robert “Bob” Dillon of Wenatchee, WA, left formation on 7 October 2016 at age 93. Bob was a 335th pilot. Folded wings.

Bob was at Horham from October 1944 through the end of the war in Europe. He completed his 35 missions in April 1945 but was assigned one extra: a Chowhound run as the result of him and his co-pilot setting off flares upon landing after their final combat mission. Seventy years later, Bob and his wife Carolyn met Dutch folks in Wenatchee who were recipients of that food drop.

Before shipping overseas, Bob married his sweetheart Carolyn on 17 March 1944. They remained happily united for over 71 years, separated only by Carolyn’s passing on 30 March 2015. Since that time, Bob kept busy. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson David. And in early June 2016, Bob helped his sister Gladys Tracy, an Army nurse during WWII, celebrate her 99th birthday.
