Major General William "Bill" Cecil Lindley, USAF (Ret.)
Left Formation August 4, 2016
From the 95th BG Memorials Foundation Facebook page:
With heavy hearts, the Memorials Foundation and the Heritage Association announce that William "Bill" Lindley of San Antonio, TX, left formation on 4 August 2016 at age 96. Bill flew as an original cadre pilot with the 412th. Folded wings.
Bill was a career officer. He served not only during World War II but also in Korea and Vietnam. All the while, the 95th retained a lasting place in his life through the strong friendship Bill enjoyed since 1942 with fellow 412th pilots John Storie and Gale House. Gale's passing in September 2015 left Bill as both the last of the trio and the last original pilot of the 95th. The loss of Gale struck Bill hard. In recent months, Bill's health slipped away, but he maintained the dignity and sharp mind with which he lived. By his side through it all was his beloved Roselyn, Bill's bride of nearly 72 years.
