Arden Lorimer Quesinberry

In deep sadness, the Memorials Foundation and the Heritage Association announce that Arden Lorimer Quesinberry of Severna Park, MD, left formation on 22 October 2016. Arden was a 336th togglier. He died peacefully at his home after a long illness. Folded wings.

Arden was born to Martha Ethel Branscome and Tyler C. Quesinberry in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. As his obituary reads, he “was raised there and met his wife and the love of his life, Golda, when they were young children. He served in World War II in the [Army] Air Force, flying 26 missions over Germany, and received the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal (awarded for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight), seven Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and three Bronze Service Stars. Arden graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He went to work at Westinghouse Electric as an electrical engineer and retired from there in 1988 after 34 years. He was a major contributor to the development of the AWACS aircraft radar system, holding several patents. 

“Arden celebrated 71 years of marriage to his childhood sweetheart Golda E. Quesinberry (née Lynch) on July 9, 2016. He is survived by her and his daughter, Lisa Allen and husband, Steven of Bowie, MD; his son, Philip Quesinberry and wife, Vicky of Severn, MD; his brothers, Chester Quesinberry and family, Eric Quesinberry and family, and Garmon (Gary) Quesinberry and family. He is predeceased by his brothers, Elmen Quesinberry, Dorn Quesinberry, Harmon Quesinberry, and his sister, Eileen Hubbard. Arden also loved, and was loved by, two young grandchildren, Dylan Lee Arden Allen and Colton Quinn Allen of Bowie, MD. 

“Arden loved to hunt and fish, but his greatest passion was flying in his Cessna 182. He obtained his pilot license in 1958 and only stopped flying in 2011. He also loved gardening every summer and had raised beef cattle at his farm in Meadows of Dan, VA, for many years.” 

Arden had been in declining health for the past several years. A recent stint in rehab had been especially hard on him, prompting Golda to bring him home as soon as she could. At home, Arden’s mind cleared up and he was happy just to be there with his beloved wife. “He was a wonderful person in every way,” wrote Golda to a 95th family member. “We all miss him so much.”

Family and friends attended a gathering in Arden’s memory at Severna Park on 29 October 2016. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
