Matthew J. McEntee
October 6, 1917 – December 2, 2002
MATTHEW J. McENTEE, 85, of Indian Avenue, a lieutenant in the New York City Police Department for 20 years until he retired in the 1960s, died Monday at the St. Clare Home in Newport.
He was the husband of Elena (Zenorini) McEntee; they were married 58 years. Born Oct. 6, 1917, in West Hoboken, N.J., he was the son of the late Matthew J. and Mary (Foley) McEntee. He moved to Newport two years ago.
Following his retirement, he was employed in the uniform industry in New Jersey.
Mr. McEntee served in World War II as a captain in the Eighth Army Air Corps. He was a bomber pilot in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Matthew McEntee of Houston, Texas, and Henry McEntee of Arlington, Va.; four daughters, Donna Miller, Kate McEntee and Deborah Chriss, all of Arlington, and Sheila McEntee of Birmingham, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary Gattanella.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Joseph Church, Broadway at Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.
