William Mowbray

William (Bill) Mowbray died September 30, 2012, in Winston-Salem, NC. Bill was born in Tredegar, Wales to William George and Beatrice Matthews Mowbray. Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Susie; children, Patricia (Earl) Martin of Winston-Salem, NC; Anne (Cliff) Burgess of Hattiesburg MS; and George (Dayna) Mowbray of Lake Charles, LA; 5 grandchildren: Julie Martin, Rachel (Keith) Wilson, Holly Mowbray, Nick (Ashley) Mowbray, and Billy Mowbray; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie (Carolyn) of Janesville, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George and Jim.
Bill served in the US Army Air Corp and participated in the food drop over the Netherlands. He was thrilled to be chosen for the 2010 Southeastern NC Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
He was a supervisor at Timme/Deporter Corporation until his retirement. He was a charter member of Pine Valley Country Club. He bowled until he was nearly 91 years old. He was a Life Member of the Wilmington Bowling Association and the NC State Bowling Association. He was inducted into the NC Bowling Hall of Fame and the inaugural class of the Wilmington Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
A Memorial Service with a reception following will be on Monday, October 8 at 11 am at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 1219 Forest Hills Drive, Wilmington, NC.
