John Smevaag, 85, passed away in Indio, California, March 18, 2010. Born to John and Anna Smevaag on October 20, 1924 in Everett, John was a graduate of Everett High School and the University of Washington with his BA in business, and, he was also a certied life underwriter.

John served as a second Lieutenant in the US Army (Air Force) in WWII. He was a B-17 navigator, flying missions with the Eighth Air Force, 95th Bombardment Group from England over targets throughout Germany and occupied Europe.

After his enlistment, John was an agent for the New York Life Insurance Company, retiring after 30 years. He was an active member and Past Exalted Ruler Everett Elk Lodge, Sons of Norway, previous board member of Providence General Medical Center, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and previously Central Lutheran Church. John was an avid fisherman, duck hunter, golfer, traveler, and a Husky football fan.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Smevaag; parents, John and Anna Smevaag; and sister, Ruth "Dolly" Lonien.

He is survived by wife, Maxine; daughters, Janis Smevaag, Debra Smevaag, Susan (Mark) Wolken; sister, Norma Fuhrman; grandchildren, Jonathon Bloom (Amanda Waters), Dyann (Cody) Kelson and Alissa Wolken. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 1, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 7215 51st Ave. NE, Marysville, WA. Viewing will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on Tuesday, March 30 and 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.
