A.L. Graves

A.L. Graves, 72, of Harvard, died Tuesday, October 30, 1990 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, North Chicago.

Mr. Graves was born February 12, 1918 in North Branch, Michigan, a son of Oscar and Pauline (Becker) Graves. An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he spent 13 months in Germany as a prisoner of war.

He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Harvard Moose Lodge, the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

He worked in the precast construction business until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Luella (Hermes) Graves, who he married on November 25, 1961 in Crystal Lake; eight daughters, Gayle (Al) Johnson of Westfield, WI, Ada (Rick) Hoffman of AZ, Paula (James) of Lanphier FL, Roseann Voykin of Belvidere, Arlene (Steve) Spiegelhoff of WI, Mary (Ray) Anderson of Fontana WI, and Cheryl (Michael) Grieshop of Harvard; two stepsons, James (Alice) Shebeck of Phoenix, AZ and Ronald (Barb) Shebeck of Algonquin; and a stepdaughter, Colleen (frank) Riess of Crystal Lake.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Morris Graves of Harvard and Howard Graves of Washington state; two sisters, Fern Hookstadt of Harvard and Betty Patterson of Ubly, MI.

His parents, first wife Mabel, infant son Allen and brother Stanley preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harvard, with the Rev. Hubert V. McGinn as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, Harvard, where a wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
