John A. Star

February 27, 1924 – March 9, 1945

Missing since March 9th, 1945, was Sgt. John A Star, son of Mr. and Mrs. J Star, Ashtabula, Ohio. On March 10th, the War Dep’t. notified his parents that he is presumed dead. He was a crew member of a B-17 (Flying Fortress) bomber which departed on a bombing mission from Horham, England to Frankfurt, Germany.

According to news received, the plane was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire and went into a dive. It was reported at the time that Sgt. Star was last seen parachuting out of the plane, which was over the target area. He was not seen or heard of since. 

He was 21 years of age, and the oldest son of the family. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Lawrence H Star who was recently discharged from the army after serving in the Philippines, and Frank J Star, who has passed his army physical examination, and will enter the service upon graduation from high school. The family makes their home at R.F.D. No. 1, Granger Rd., in Ashtabula, OH
