Robert Norman McClure, 83, died at his home in Rutland on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, following a period of failing health. Mr. McClure was born in Wall-ingford, Vermont on September 4, 1918, the son of May (McClure) Eddy. He graduated from Wall-ingford High School in 1937. Mr. McClure was an avid outdoorsman in his youth.

Robert McClure was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran in the European Theater of Operations with the 95th Bomb Group of the USAAF during World War II. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and served seven years as a member of the Vermont National Guard.

He was a member of the Chipman Lodge 52 in Wallingford for more than 50 years and a member of the Cairo Temple in Rutland for more than 45 years. He was involved as a member of the Cairo Patrol & Drum Corp during the 1950s and 1960s. Mr. McClure was a member of the York Rite of Rutland, Davenport Chapter 17 RAM, Killington Commandry 6 and Cairo Temple AAONM's of Rutland. He was a life member of the 95th Bomb Group Association of WWII and a life member of AKWA Chapter 16 of New Eng-land. He was also a member of American Legion Post 31 of Rutland and a member of the VFW 648 of Rutland.

Mr. McClure worked for Central Vermont Public Service Corpora-tion for a number of years and retired from VELCO in 1983.

Survivors of Robert McClure include his children, David A. Mc-Clure of Shirley, New York, Carol A. Boutwell of Rutland, Vermont, Peter R. McClure of Hartland, Vermont and Robin

J. Kovacs of Rutland, Vermont; grandchildren, Lisa Taiani, Robert McClure, David McClure Jr., Karla McClure and Evan McClure; great-grandson, Robert Taiani; a brother, Thomas B. Eddy of Wallingford, Vermont; and a sister, Nancy Cox of Man-chester, Connecticut.

Mr. McClure was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Sanderson) McClure in 1996; and a brother, Donald R. Eddy of Wallingford, Vermont.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service for Mr. McClure will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the East Clarendon Cemetery in East Clarendon, Vermont. A luncheon will follow the service at the American Legion in Rutland, Vermont.

The family has requested that flowers not be sent. In lieu of flowers you are invited to make a memorial contribution in Mr. McClure's name to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children in Massachusetts, in care of the Clifford Funeral Home, 2 Washington St., Rutland, 05701 or the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, P.O.
