Earl Dewayne Meyer, 84, of Springeld, formerly of Jacksonville and South Jacksonville, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Capitol Care Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in New Berlin, the son of Adolph and Nellie Crawford Meyer. He married Elizabeth Standish in 1945 in Indianapolis.

Mr. Meyer worked in sales and service for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Church of Our Saviour, past member and past master of Masonic Lodge 570 AF&AM and a past member of Zingabad Grotto. He was active in Cub Scouts, youth baseball, AMVETS and VFW.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he was with the 95th Bombardment Group, serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. He received a silver and three battle stars, five overseas service bars, first bronze leaf cluster and Croix de Guerre with Psalm 44.

Survivors: wife, Elizabeth; a son, E. Dewayne (wife, Kate) Meyer Jr. of Springeld; two grandsons; four nieces; and a nephew.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Cody and Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville. Burial: Waverly East Cemetery.
