Francis R. King, 84, of Henry died Friday, August 17, 2007. He was born in Henry, a son of the late Harry L. and Vida Hurt King. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Martinsville and retired from First Virginia Bank in Manassas and Danville and had at one time resided in Waynesboro.

Mr. King was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served as a B-17 pilot with the 95th Bomb Group in England. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the rank of Major.

He attended Ferrum Junior College, now Ferrum College and was a former member of the Lions Club for a number of years.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Page Bryant King in 2003, two sisters, Joy Kinzer and Octavia Massey, brother John F. King. Survivors include his sons, Francis R. King, Jr., Moneta, Dr. David L. King, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; brother, Dr. Harry L. King, Henry; sisters, Viola Luckey, Miami, Florida and Alice Sharpe, Atlanta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Beth King and Katherine King; one great-granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007 with Dr. Dennis Knight officiating. Interment will follow in the Town Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 23 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.
