Mr. Jehlen, age 83, of Singer Island, Florida passed away on Wednesday morning, December 8, 2004. He moved to Florida from Hawthorne, New Jersey in 1980. Mr. Jehlen was employed by Citibank, New York City in 1938 and upon retirement in 1980 was a Vice President/Senior Credit Officer responsible for the supervision and final approval of the bank's real estate loan portfolio worldwide. In connection with his work, he completed specialized courses at New York University, Ohio State University and Dartmouth College.

During the 1980's, he was active in civic and social affairs which included President / Director of the Singer Island Civic Association, President / Director of the Sugar Sands Condominium Association, Commodore/Director of the Sugar Sands Yacht Club, member of the Riviera Beach Planning and Zoning Board, Commissioner of the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee in connection with the formulation of the City's annual Operating Budget. He was also a member of The Royal Poinciana Chapel, Palm Beach.

Mr. Jehlen enlisted in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a Radio Operator/Gunner in the 8th Air Corps, 95th Bomb Group. His B-17 bomber was shot down on his 7th mission and he was a German Prisoner-of-War at Stalag 7-A and Stalag 17-B for 20 months. He also survived the death march across Austria near the war's end and was awarded several wartime citations. Mr. Jehlen was a member of numerous veterans' organizations and a life member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War.

In addition to May F. Jehlen, his beloved wife of 58 years, Mr. Jehlen leaves two daughters: Lauren Burton of Eagan, Minnesota and Barbara Olmert of Columbia, Maryland; two granddaughters: Megan and Kristin; a sister, Jean Hauslen of Mahwah, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Royal Poinciana Chapel, 60 Cocoanut Row, Palm Beach on Saturday afternoon, December 18, 2004 at two o'clock with Rev. Dr. Robert S. Norris, Pastor, ofciating. Funeral services with Full Military Honors and interment will take place in Arlington
