Dr. Seaborn E. "Gene" Jones, 71, passed away at his Santa Fe Home unexpectedly on Wednesday March 22, 1995. He was born in Linden, Texas on January 26, 1924, to Seaborn Jones and Gladys Bower Jones, who have preceded him in death. Dr. Jones married Nona Jones in Houston, Texas on November 22, 1945.

Dr. Jones served during Wold War II as an Air Force Staff Sergeant with the 95th Bomb Group. During his tour of duty he flew 28 missions into Germany as a ball turret gunner while stationed in England.

He was a graduate of Simpsonville High School in Texas in 1941; earned his B.S. in Zoology and Chemistry from Oklahoma A and M in 1949; and his D.O., from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, 1954. He completed his general surgical residency in 1964. Dr. Jones practiced medicine and surgery in Dallas, Dexter, Missouri and Mineola, Texas until his retirement in 1991. He retired to Santa Fe where he worked at the State Penitentiary as a physician until his death.

Dr. Jones was an Elder at the Church of Christ in Santa Fe; and a past Elder, Church of Christ in Mineola, Texas for 28 years. He also belonged to the American Osteopathic Association: was a member of the Church of Christ; and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Dr. Jones was the past president, Mineola School Board, 1968-69, Mineola, TX ad Team physician from 1964-70. For Mineola High School; and the Texas Folklore Society since 1987. He also was a licensed gunsmith and dealer, a Civil War Buff, and loved Spanish music.

Dr. Jones is survived by his living wife, Nona of Santa Fe, sons: Dr. Martin W. Johns and wife Sally of Washington, D.C.; Paul Eugene Jones and partner Dr. Michael White of San Francisco, CA; daughters: Glenna Carlton and husband Allan of Manseld, TX; Dr. Mary F. Johns and partner Suzalle Mason of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Traci Jones of Boston, MA, Anna Carlton and Chris Carlton of Manseld, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends.

There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 1995 at The Santa Fe Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11: 30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, Santa Fe 471-7365 or the American Diabetes Association, 525 San Pedro NE, Suite 10, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
