Hightshoe Robert Burns Hightshoe, age 92, of Columbus, died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born November 6, 1921 to the late Walter E. and Clara Larsen Hightshoe. Preceded in death by wives Ava Strine Hightshoe and Ruth "Bunny" Ball Hightshoe, son Ronald Scott Hightshoe, and sister Jane Hightshoe Russell. Survived by son, Bruce (Bonnie) Hightshoe; step-daughters, Linda, Bonnie and Deborah; grandchildren, Morgan Hightshoe, David, Mark, Paul and Andrew Tucker, Brian, Mary and Laura Large; two nieces; one nephews. Columbus native; graduate of North High School '39, The Ohio State University B.S. in Music Ed '43, MA '48.
B-17 Pilot and Aircraft Commander, 95th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, England in WWII. Instrumental Music Teacher in Lancaster, Upper Arlington and O.S.U. University School. In 1985, retired from The Ohio State University, College of the Arts as Assistant Dean Emeritus and Associate Professor Emeritus (Music). In September of 1984, retired from the chair of Principal Trumpet after 33 years of playing as a Charter Member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Charter member of the Brass of Columbus. Member of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church; Columbus Federation of Musicians, Local 103 of A.F.M.; OSU Alumni Association; OSU Retirees Association; 95th Bomb Group Association; The Old North High Club; and The International Trumpet Guild.
Funeral Service 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Ave., Columbus, OH 43202 with Pastor Ralph Wolfe ofciating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
