Paul L. Hintermeier

September 26, 1921 – November 4, 2004

Paul Louis Hintermeier, 83, a Derby resident and Republic Steel employee, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Hintermeier graduated from Technical High School in 1939. He also attended the University of Buffalo.

He served as a lieutenant and navigator on B-17s in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four oak clusters, and the Russian Mission Medal for his service in the European Theater.

In 1947, he began working for Republic Steel Corp. and retired as a mechanical foreman in 1981 after 34 years of service.

Mr. Hintermeier was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society and the 95th Bomb Group Association.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Jean McGowan; four sons, Paul J. of West Seneca, Mark L. of Hamburg, David M. of Averill Park, and Joseph D. of Miami; one sister, Muriel Klopp of Leesburg, Fla.; ve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2050 South Creek Road, North Evans. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
