Nat Hill
March 7, 1926 – November 25, 2006
Mr. Nat Hill of Athens, formerly of Covington, died Saturday, November 25, 2006. Born in Newton County on March 7, 1926, to the late Charlie Norton Hill and Clara Wood Hill, Mr. Hill grew up in Covington and graduated from Covington High School in May 1943. Mr. Hill was a member of Covington First United Methodist Church and was a faithful member until he moved to Athens where he then attended Athens United Methodist Church.
He entered the University of Georgia in June 1943 and was called to duty in the United States Army Air Force in April 1944. In February 1945 he went overseas to participate in the European Theatre and join the Eighth Air Force and was assigned to the 95th Bombardment Group as a tail gunner on a B-17 (Flying Fortress). Mr. Hill returned to the University of Georgia in June 1950. He retired from G.M.A.C. after 40 years of service.
Mr. Hill was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity when at the University of Georgia and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Alumni Association. He was a member of the Athens Country Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Touchdown Club of Athens, board member of the G.E.E.F. (formerly G.S.E.F.), the Board of Directors of University of Georgia Chapter of the Hall of Fame, member of the University of Georgia President's Club. He also was a member of the Cadillac Coffee Club of Athens.
Survivors include his nephew, William (Bill) Rainwater of Alpharetta, niece, Julia Rainwater Jennings of Augusta; cousins, Jean Mooty of Decatur, Kenneth Pritchett of Utah; special friends, Lisa and Steve Weirather, Jorie Weirather and Ben Weirather, all of Lawrenceville.
Funeral services for Mr. Nat Hill will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from Covington First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Britt and Rev. John Whatley ofciating. Interment will follow at Covington City Cemetery. In lieu of owers contributions may be made to Athens First United Methodist Church , 327 N. Lumpkin St., Athens, GA 30601 or Covington First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers St., SE, Covington, GA 30014. J. C. Harwell & Son of Covington is in charge of the arrangements.
