Mr. Hendershot, a 47-year resident of Spokane, died Feb. 19. He was born in Shamokin, Pa.

He grew up in Pittston, Pa., and graduated from Jenkins High School in 1935. He joined the Pennsylvania State Police and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940.

Mr. Hendershot graduated from Aviation Cadet School in Deming, N.M., as a second lieutenant. He served with the 95th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force in England during World War II. He flew a B-17 on 35 missions and was the lead airplane during the Normandy Invasion.

He retired from Fairchild Air Force Base in 1961, where he had flown B-52s. During his military career he received several awards, including the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with cluster and the Presidential Unit Citation with clusters. Mr. Hendershot then worked for the city of Spokane for 20 years, including as zoning administrator for 10 years. He retired in 1981.

He was a member of Audubon Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jayne Beckel of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Manoie Hendershot of Seattle; his former wife, Gladys Manoie of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Private services will be held at a later date for Floyd A. Hendershot, 84. Burial will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
