Albert L. Hillman, 80, died Monday at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Frederick J. and Hazel (Howell) Hillman. He was a graduate of Hempstead High School, class of 1932, and Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y.

In 1941, he married Kathryn Gallasch.

Mr. Hillman owned and operated a garage in Hempstead, N.Y.

In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Europe as a navigator on B-1's, Flying Fortress in the 95th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force. He was shot down in Russia. He served in the Air Force Reserve for 30 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Hillman ew more than 30 missions. His group led the rst American bombing of Berlin. He was assistant lead crew training ofcer of the 95th Bomb Group.

He was awarded many medals, including the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and a Presidential Citation for bombing The Messerschmitt Fighter Plant at Regensburg, Germany.

After the war, he moved to Northport, N.Y., where he owned and operated a sporting-goods store and service station. He also established a service station in Huntington, N.Y. He retired in 1971.

Following his retirement, he moved to Friendship in 1972.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Northport, N.Y., the Morton Masonic Lodge of Hempstead, N.Y., and was a life member of Huntington Elks Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was elected past King Lion of the Waldoboro Lions Club and was active as chairman of the Sight Program.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn M. Hillman of Friendship; and three sons, Albert L. Jr. of South Harpswell, Charles F. Hillman of Friendship and Jeffrey J. of Waldoboro.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Main Street, Waldoboro, with the Rev. John Ineson ofciating.
