Louis Feingold

Louis Feingold, 89, of Emerson passed away on Saturday, October 25 at home with his family at his side.
Lou was born in Brooklyn, NY, and later resided in Emerson, NJ for 49 years. Lou was a self-employed garment contractor and owned Pride Dress Factory in Lyndhurst, NJ. Lou retired in 1993.
Lou was a WWII veteran and served as a First lieutenant in the United States Army Air Force, 95th Bomb Group. He was a navigator on a B-17 during the war. During his 20th bombing mission over Ludwigshaven, Germany, his plane was shot down in Nazi-occupied France.
Lou evaded capture from the Nazis through the Shelburne escape line organized between the Allied Forces in England and the French Resistance in 1943. He was hidden and aided for two months by the French Underground. He traveled from Paris to the Brittany coast, staying in several safe houses, and receiving two different fake identities to avoid capture. At the coast, he was met by a British gunboat and escaped safely to England.
In 1978, Lou was reunited with the French Resistance fighters who helped him in his escape. He was an active member of the Air Force Escape and Evasion Society, an organization dedicated to maintaining friendships with people who helped airmen.
Lou is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leah Ruth, and his children, Richard, of Hackensack, and Laurie and Andrew, both of Westwood. His son Daniel predeceased him. Lou is also survived by his brother, Simon, of Forest Hills, NY, and predeceased by brothers, Ben and William, and sister, Geraldine.
Viewing hours will be on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday at Becker Funeral home. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
