Harold "Skippy" Garmong

Harold “Skippy” Garmong, age 89 of Marshall Twp., formerly of Gilpin Twp., PA died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Kindred Hospital, Pgh, PA. Born September 10, 1923 in Emlenton, PA, the son of the late Edward Roy Garmong, Sr. and Grace (Shoup) Garmong; father of the late Harold "Skippy" Garmong, II in 1970; and brother of the late Arnold Garmong, Ralph Garmong, Edward R. Garmong, Jr., Blanche Brode, Olive "Oddie" Morhac, Alberta "Bertie" Bouch and Martha Garmong. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Louise (Yapp) Garmong on Sept. 14, 1993.
Survived by daughter, Janean E. Stringer of North Hills, PA; grandchildren, Ronnie Lee Stringer Randolph and Jackie Lynn Stringer; great- grandchildren, Haylee Nicole Stringer, Darin Shane Stringer and Lilly Michelle Randolph; brothers, Frank Garmong (Georgia) of Kittanning, PA, Donald Garmong (Betty) of Red Bank, PA, and Larry Garmong (Cheryl) of Springdale, PA; and sister, Laretta Cline of Ford City, PA.
Employed as a Roller on the United Mill in the Cold Mill Department by West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation for 36 years retiring in 1983. He was also a Deputy Game Warden for Armstrong County for 11 years.
Army Air Force Veteran of WW II where he received the following medals: Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal Silver Cluster (awarded 6 times), Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars, Gold Medal from Russian Embassy, American Campaign Medal, European Air Offensive 1943 to 1945, World War II Victory Medal, 50th Anniversary Victory in Europe, Diploma from French Embassy.
Member of Forks Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Gilpin Twp. Retirees of the USWA in Leechburg Local 1138, VFW lLife Member at large, VFW Life Member of Ford City Post 4843, Member of American Legion Schenley Post 0775, Life Member of 95th Bomb Group 336th Squadron, 8th Air Force Historical Society Western PA Chapter.
Enjoyed hunting and fishing, racing stock cars, flying airplanes, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and passing out dollar bills to all children.
Friends welcomed by his family on Saturday and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at CLAWSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
