George A. Giddings, 81, of Concord, MA, formerly of Simsbury, husband of the late Barbara Louise (MacKinnon) Giddings, died Wednesday, (May 9, 2007), at Emerson Hospital, Concord. He was born in Milton, October 7, 1925 to the late George A. and Clara (Nutting) Giddings.

George served in the Army Air Corp during World War II in the European Theatre as a turret gunner on a B-17 Bomber with the 95th Bomb Group earning the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. A painting and decorating contractor in the Stoughton area for many years, he was a past president of the Boston Chapter of the Painting Decorators of the United States.

He became a municipal assessor and served the towns of South Berwick and Kennebunk, ME. for 25 years as well as Westford, MA. He was a Past Master of Rising Star Lodge A.F & A.M. of Stoughton, MA and past chaplain of St. John's Lodge # 57 F & AM of South Berwick, ME. He was also past president of the Stoughton Rotary Club and a former member of the Westford, MA, South Berwick and Kennebunk, ME. Rotary Clubs. George was a member of the Sudbury United Methodist Church and formerly a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church.

He leaves two sons, Geoffrey A. Giddings and his wife, Christine of Simsbury, and Mark W. Giddings and his wife, Colleen of Concord, MA; six grandchildren, Amanda Evans, Kelley Budlong, Hilary Carmon, Matthew, Katherine, and MacKinnon Giddings; and four great grandchildren, Madeline and Abigail Evans and Hannah and Avery Carmon. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward A. Giddings.

A memorial service will be Sunday, May 13, 4 p.m. at the MacRae- Tunnicliffe Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap Street, Concord, MA. The Rev. Richard Harding will ofciate. His family will receive friends from 3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service. Contributions may be made to either the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, 06070 or a charity of the donor's choice.
