CUMBERLAND — Robert “Smokey” Warren Davis, 87, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at the Allegany County Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born Aug. 2, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late David William Davis and Dixie Dorsey Davis.

He was also preceded in death by a son, David Robert Davis in 2002; and two sisters, Gwendolyn Davis Frank and Elma Catherine Davis.

During World War II, Mr. Davis had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He belonged to the 95th. Bomb Group, 8th USAAF.

Mr. Davis was retired from the B & O Railroad, where he had been an electrician. He was a member of Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Frances Davis; one son, Blane Davis, Cumberland; two grandsons, Jeffrey D. Davis and Christopher D. Davis; a daughter-in-law, Linda Rutherford Davis and her son, Paul Boone.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Potomac Lodge 100, A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug White ofciating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of their close friends in the area, as well as the staffs at both Allegany County Nursing & Rehab Center and WMHS-Braddock Campus for their kind, compassionate care.
