Noah Wilson Carriker
August 8, 1923 – August 16, 2003
Mr. Carriker, of Charlotte, went to his heavenly home August 16, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 19, 2003 in the Mausoleum of Sunset Memory Gardens on Lawyers Road. Pastor Eric Waldrop of Wilgrove Baptist Church will be ofciating. The family will receive friends at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road, on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM.
Mr. Carriker was born on August 8, 1923 in Union County to the late Noah Wilson and Francis Armittie Carriker. He was the youngest of ten children. He was married February 27, 1942 to his faithful wife of 61 years, Elwell. Mr. Carriker was a World War II veteran and POW. He was in the 8th Air Force and was a B-17 tail gunner of the 334th Squadron, and a member of the "Flying Fortress" crew, 95th Bombardment Group. In 1963, he opened Carriker's Steaks and Seafood, still operating today on Albemarle Road in Charlotte. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mint Hill. After retiring at age 50, Mr. Carriker enjoyed traveling and golf. Many of his hours were also spent in the garden he dearly loved. He was a member of Church of the Savior in Matthews, NC.
Besides his wife Elwell Tucker Carriker, his daughter, Belinda Flippin and husband Wayne, of Charlotte; his sons, Steve and wife Lynn Gayle, of Rock Hill, SC, Jeff and wife Lynn, of Asheboro, NC, survive Mr. Carriker. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Cheryl Luther and husband Steve, of Mint Hill, NC, Daryl Flippin and wife Nancy, of Sumter, SC, and Clark Carriker, of Asheboro, NC, four great-grandchildren, Rachel and Emily Luther, of Mint Hill, NC, Mandee and Cayla Flippin, of Sumter, SC and one sister Christine McClure, of Charlotte.Those desiring, may send memorials to Church of the Savior, 4317 Stevens Mill Road, Matthews, NC, Wilson Grove Baptist Church 6624 Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC, or to a charity of your choice.
