SOUTH DENNIS - Philip Preston Brooks Jr. ("Pres" to most everyone) died Tuesday, March 3 in Cincinnati. He was born Nov. 3, 1921 and grew up in Framingham, MA. He was the son of Philip and Blanche P. Brooks.

Pres was the beloved husband of Carrie Louise Murrell for the past 13 wonderful years who survives him; formerly widower to Ellen Munroe, who died in 1997. Father of three sons – Philip P. III (Cile), Andrew Munroe (Beverly) and Nathaniel Eldridge (Suzanne). Grandfather to eight ranging from 1 to 34 years - Stephanie B. Altergott (Josh), Eleanor Brooks, Natalie Brooks, Ashley Brooks, Philip J. Brooks, Preston Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks and T homas Brooks. Great-grandfather to Conner Altergott and Aubrey Altergott.

He attended Dartmouth College (class of 1943). Pres, along with some members of his college class, graduated in December 1942 in preparation for induction into the armed services during World War II. He served in the 8th Air Force, 95th Bomb Group in the Army Air Corps in the European campaign as a B-17 navigator. Survivor of 22 combat missions, he participated in the first day raid over Berlin, and was involved in air offensives in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. Following the war, he returned to Dartmouth to pursue a graduate degree from the Tuck School.

Pres began his career in financial services at Royal Liverpool Insurance in New York after which he took an investment analyst position with Toledo Trust Company in Toledo, OH. The majority of his business career was spent as a T rust & Investment Officer at Central T rust in Cincinnati, which later became PNC just before Pres retired. He was an active and early member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute (CFA), serving as national CFA President, 1977-78, and President of the CFA Society of Cincinnati, 1963-64. In retirement, he was active in Dartmouth Alumni activities, serving as class secretary for several years. He also served as a volunteer at Cincinnati Music Hall and Jacob Sears Memorial Library, Cape Cod, MA.

Friends abounded for Pres across the map as he loved people. Among his many passions were family, crossword puzzles, golf, travel, hiking, reading, gardening, cooking and tennis. He played doubles tennis with vigor into his late 80s. Louise and Pres enjoyed splitting their time between their riverfront apartment in Cincinnati and a home on Cape Cod. Pres became a friend in recent years of the Lloyd Memorial High School Alumni Association Erlanger, KY from which Louise graduated.

A memorial service to celebrate Pres' life will be held Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Seasons, 7300 Dearwester Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45236.
