National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force

Pooler, Georgia
Opened May, 1996 Redesigned May, 2022

Outside Savannah, Georgia is a museum whose scope matches the magnificent history of the Mighty Eighth itself. Opened in 1996, it houses many tributes to the 95th Bomb Group, including a large banner and numerous plaques. Some of the air crews established crew plaques, including the crew of Destiny’s Tot and “Brownie’s Boys,” the crew of Al H. Brown. In the Memorial Garden are a few plaques on the Wall of Valor inscribed to individuals who were lost from the Group.

In May of 2022, the 95th Bomb Group exhibit across from the theatre was replaced with one that tells of three 95th events that greatly influenced the 8th Air Force:

The Alconbury Blast on May 27, 1943

The First B-17s over Berlin on March 4, 1944

The Last Plane Down on May 7, 1945

Two 95th jackets are also on display – one officer’s and one enlisted man’s – as well as a carving by 336th navigator Lloyd Krueger entitled “The Crewman.”
