United States Air Force Academy
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Dedicated September 18, 1987
In the mid-1980s, the 95th Bomb Group, along with other WWII Air Force units, was invited to mount a memorial plaque on a wall in the Air Force Academy Cemetery. Thirteen inches square, the plaque is cast in bronze. A listing of the four combat squadrons, along with recognition of all the support groups, surrounds the Group’s shield. A phrase on the bottom notes the three Presidential Distinguished Unit Citations received by the 95th. Nearby is the grave of the second Commander of the 95th , General John Gerhart, whose last Air Force assignment was Commander in Chief of the North American Defense Command.
This memorial plaque was the first 95th Bomb Group memorial dedicated in the United States.
